A multimedia installation of various found / repurposed / manipulated objects collected from Chavez’s Bee Sanctuary. Dried plants, pollen, garden tools and beekeeping equipment are juxtaposed with a super 8mm video of a Pachamanca. The Installation explores beekeeping and collective work as a ceremonial practice in a presentation inspired by an Andean ritual. Pachamanca feast would be laid out on a poncho, for which Chávez substitutes shiny mylar, heat-preserving survival blanket. This aesthetic decision takes on political dimensions when considering the new threat to the bees and the land.
